Cover Story
Gold Phoenix Makes Del Mar History
Another unforgettable chapter for the King of Del Mar.
There are great racehorses—and then there are Del Mar legends.
Gold Phoenix added another remarkable achievement to his career
by capturing the Grade 2 Eddie Read Stakes and recording his
sixth Del Mar stakes victory.
Every time Gold steps onto the Del Mar turf course, he reminds
us why we fell in love with Thoroughbred racing.

Mark Gelding Take:
The public has struggled early in the meet. Players willing to
spread around vulnerable favorites have been rewarded with

✅ Did the horse run better than the chart indicates?
✅ Is the horse improving with experience?
✅ Has the horse posted a positive workout pattern?

Gold’s Corner
More Than a Racehorse
Gold Phoenix was the first horse I ever owned. Growing up in
Ireland, horse racing was always a major part of my life.
Some of my favorite childhood memories are of attending the
races with my dad.
Watching Gold become one of the most accomplished horses in
Del Mar history is something I never could have imagined.
Every time he runs, he reminds us that racing is about much
more than wagering. It is about the horses, the people and
the moments that stay with us forever.
|
|
|
Final Word
Del Mar rewards preparation. Our goal is to identify improving
horses before the rest of the public, understand what the
betting markets are telling us and help members make smarter
wagering decisions throughout the weekend.
