WATCH DOUBLE TROUBLE LIVE
Saratoga’s jockey race is tighter than Frank’s fist when somebody suggests adding one more horse to the Pick 5.
The trainer standings are loaded, the biggest races keep producing chaos and the “Graveyard of Champions” has apparently renewed its lease.
🏇 THE SARATOGA JOCKEY BRAWL
José Ortiz: 65 wins from 283 mounts, 23% winners and 57% in the top three.
Manny Franco: 62 wins from 308 mounts and 50% in the top three.
Flavien Prat: 60 wins, 57% in the top three and a meet-leading $7.6 million in earnings.
Just five wins separate first from third. That isn’t a jockey race—it’s three grown men fighting over the last chair at a wedding.
🧢 THE TRAINERS CURRENTLY HOARDING WINNERS
Chad Brown: 36 wins, 58% in the top three and nearly $5.5 million earned.
Linda Rice: 31 wins and 50% in the top three. She has officially reached “stop pretending you didn’t see the entry” status.
Brad Cox: 21 wins from only 83 starters—a 25.3% strike rate—and now another Travers trophy.
Todd Pletcher: 19 wins from 99 starters because apparently 6,000 career victories weren’t enough.
MARK ENSIGHT: Cox is winning at the highest percentage among the leading barns. Chad has the volume. Linda keeps firing. “I didn’t like the price” is acceptable. “I forgot to look at the trainer” is not.
💰 TRAVERS DAY: THE ECONOMY WAS FINE
$60,863,320
TOTAL WAGERING HANDLE
$11,197,855
BET ON TRACK
47,659
PAID ATTENDANCE
It was the second-largest Travers Day handle in history, proving that horseplayers will continue wagering no matter how many times Saratoga punches them in the wallet.
🪦 THE GRAVEYARD CLOCKED IN FOR WORK
Kentucky Derby and Belmont winner Golden Tempo arrived as the star of the three-year-old division.
He finished third.
Lightly raced Leading Change ran him down, stayed undefeated and returned $22.76 to win.
Leading Change entered the Travers with only two lifetime starts. Frank has losing tickets with more experience than that.
The slow pace favored horses near the front. Golden Tempo made his run, but the Graveyard had already started filling out the paperwork.
🎩 FLAVIEN PRAT’S LITTLE SATURDAY
Prat won five races on the Travers Day card, including major victories aboard Naomis, Fully Subscribed and Ways and Means.
Five winners in one afternoon. Most of us are still waiting for our fifth winner of August.
⭐ HORSES WORTH REMEMBERING
Leading Change: Three starts, three wins and now a Travers victory.
Ways and Means: Dominated the Ballerina by 5½ lengths and loves Saratoga more than tourists love saying “The Spa.”
Fully Subscribed: Won the Personal Ensign by nearly ten lengths. That wasn’t a victory—it was an eviction notice.
Englishman: Crushed the Allen Jerkens and finally ended José Ortiz’s temporary “only 64 wins” crisis.
🧠 THIS WEEK’S MARK ENSIGHT
“If the pace is slow, your deep closer isn’t necessarily unlucky. Sometimes he is simply late to an appointment everyone else attended.”
Saratoga does not care about your trip excuse. Saratoga has already moved on to the next race.
