DOUBLE TROUBLE LIVE • SARATOGA WEEKLY
Jose Owns the Place.
Pletcher Found a Private Club.
And Favorites Lost Their Room Key.
Another Saratoga week is complete, and the Track Intelligence Center has reached several conclusions:
Jose Ortiz may now legally claim the jockeys’ room as a dependent.
Todd Pletcher and Flavien Prat have created a private winner’s-circle membership program.
And the average winning payoff just jumped 24%, because Saratoga apparently decided your handicapping wasn’t stressful enough.

Excellent news for value players. Terrible news for anyone whose system is circling the horse with the smallest number next to its name.
👑 JOSE ORTIZ NOW OWNS SARATOGA
JOSE ORTIZ
60 wins from 242 mounts
24.8% wins • 58.3% in the money
+7.5% ROI
Average winner: $8.67
Sixty wins with a positive ROI is absurd because absolutely nobody is overlooking Jose Ortiz.
The public knows he is good. The trainers know he is good. The other jockeys presumably know he is good because they keep watching him get his picture taken.
Jose is not sneaking up on anyone. He is standing in the winner’s circle wearing a name tag.
🏇 THE CHASING PACK
Flavien Prat
46 wins • 20.1% wins • 56.3% ITM • -19.9% ROI
|
Manuel Franco
46 wins • 18.3% wins • 45.8% ITM • -9.6% ROI
|
Ricardo Santana Jr.
28 wins • 13.0% wins • 39.5% ITM • +13.7% ROI
|
Irad Ortiz Jr.
27 wins • 25.0% wins • 51.9% ITM • +0.9% ROI
|
🚨 JOEL ROSARIO HAS ENTERED THE PROFIT CHAT
JOEL ROSARIO
3 wins from 19 mounts
15.8% wins
+152.9% ROI
Jose owns the standings. Joel owns the receipt.
A 153% return does not mean blindly betting every Rosario mount. It means looking twice before dismissing one—especially when the tote board starts acting like it knows something you don’t.
Which, to be fair, it frequently does.
🔥 RAYMOND HANDAL IS RUNNING HOT
RAYMOND HANDAL
6 wins from 25 starters
24.0% wins
+94.0% ROI
Handal is also the meet’s leading turf trainer with four wins from 16 starters.
Six wins and a 94% return is the kind of statistic that causes handicappers to whisper, “Why didn’t I see this earlier?” immediately after the horses cross the wire.
💰 MICHELLE NEVIN HAS BROKEN THE ROI BOARD
MICHELLE NEVIN
4 wins from 20 starters
20.0% wins
+210.6% ROI
Four wins. Twenty starters. More than a 200% return.
Nevin is simply making sure the winners arrive at prices that cause people to stare at their losing tickets in complete silence.
🏧 PLETCHER AND PRAT HAVE OPENED A PRIVATE CLUB
TODD PLETCHER + FLAVIEN PRAT
7 wins from 10 starters
70% wins • 80% in the money
+165.0% ROI
Average winner: $7.57
Seven wins from ten starters is not a trainer-jockey combination. It is an appointment.
The other three starters presumably participated because Saratoga rules require somebody to keep the sample from looking completely fictional.
Pletcher also owns:
- 18 trainer wins
- 23.7% win rate
- +40.0% ROI
- Seven longshot winners averaging $12.42
Todd Pletcher has decided that winning at Saratoga is not enough. The winners must also pay for dinner.
🤝 THREE MORE PARTNERSHIPS DEMANDING ATTENTION
Steven Asmussen + Jose Ortiz
11 wins from 37 • 29.7% wins • 64.9% ITM •
+45.9% ROI
|
Linda Rice + Jose Ortiz
7 wins from 21 • 33.3% wins • 47.6% ITM •
+90.0% ROI
|
Brad Cox + Manuel Franco
6 wins from 16 • 37.5% wins • 68.8% ITM •
+44.6% ROI
|
These are not subtle hints. They are the statistical equivalent of someone banging on the window and pointing at the tote board.
😂 FAVORITES HAVE MISPLACED THEIR SPA RESERVATION
28.6%
of Saratoga winners have paid 2-1 or lower
The average winner has been 5.20-1, with an average $2 payoff of $12.33.
If your wagering strategy is “just use the favorite,” Saratoga thanks you for helping fund the Pick 5 pool.

💣 BOMB OF THE MEET
TAKE A STANCE
47.1-1
$96.20 payoff
Someone took a stance on Take a Stance.
That person is now taking a stance on politics, weather, restaurant choices and why nobody else understood the horse’s breeding.
🛣️ SARATOGA’S TRACK HAS DEVELOPED MULTIPLE PERSONALITIES
DIRT SPRINTS
The complete meet has played mostly balanced, with outside paths holding an overall advantage.
August 23 shifted toward closers, producing a legitimate Closer B reading.
If you spent the afternoon yelling “speed always holds,” Saratoga politely asked you to update your software.
DIRT ROUTES — THE LOUDEST SIGNAL
August 23 produced a powerful Speed A rating from five dirt routes.
The last three racing days also earned a Speed A.
That is not a suggestion. That is the track standing on a table with a megaphone.
TURF SPRINTS
The full-meet profile favors closers and outside paths.
There were no turf sprints on the latest card. No races, no declaration. We leave inventing statistics to television graphics departments.
TURF ROUTES
The complete meet has been mostly balanced with an outside lean.
The latest two turf routes favored closers, but two races are not enough for a confirmed daily change.
Horse racing already provides enough ways to lie to ourselves without assistance from the software.
📬 HORSES TO REMEMBER
The August 23 dirt routes produced a strong Speed A bias. Race IQ identified several horses whose closer-style trips worked against that advantage:
| ✓ Evenly Alert |
✓ Instantly |
| ✓ Alley Oop |
✓ Sunday Boy |
| ✓ Onebigbeautfulbill |
✓ Minorinconvenience |
| ✓ Sociably Johnny |
✓ That’s Funny |
| ✓ Kyle’s Mom |
✓ Summer Flower |
| ✓ Pens Street |
✓ Luna Moth |
| ✓ Saratoga Snow |
|
These are not automatic bets when they return. Their finishing positions may undersell their actual efforts because they were trying to close into races dominated by speed.
Race IQ has already added them to Horse Notes, so we can find them automatically instead of relying on Mark to remember—which remains statistically less dependable than a 47-1 first-time starter.

THIS WEEK’S MARK EnSIGHT
If you bet every favorite, you were right 28.6% of the time.
If you bet Take a Stance at 47-1, you only needed to be right once.
This concludes today’s Saratoga mathematics lesson.
Jose owns the place.
Pletcher and Prat have a private club.
Raymond Handal is running hot.
And the favorites are still waiting for a table.
See you at the windows.
